Job Description & How to Apply Below

About the role

You will develop, coordinate and deliver engaging object‑based teaching and learning programmes for primary, secondary and SEND school groups, further education students, teacher training students and work experience participants. Working closely with your job share partner, you will bring a particular specialism in art‑making, using creative practice to connect learners with the Ashmolean’s collections and research.

You will design and deliver practical workshops, contribute to the development of new learning resources, build relationships with schools and educational partners, evaluate programme impact, and support the delivery of the Ashmolean’s Formal Learning Strategy. The role also includes line management responsibilities, collaboration across the Museum and University, and contributing to wider audience development and engagement initiatives.

This is a part‑time, fixed‑term contract covering a period of maternity leave, from September 2026 until September 2027. You will work 21 hours per week (0.56 FTE) on Mondays, Tuesdays and one other day of your choice to be agreed, 09:00 – 17:00. The role will be based in the office during term times, including occasional 3‑4 weekend days per year, and offers the possibility to work from home 1‑2 days per week during state‑school holidays, depending on programming needs.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to regulated activity involving children.

About You

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and will hold a PGCE, equivalent teacher training qualification, or significant experience of whole‑class teaching in museums and UK schools. You will have experience planning and delivering high‑quality learning programmes and resources for school and large group audiences, with an understanding of object‑based learning and the use of museum collections within education.

You will have excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with students, teachers, colleagues and external stakeholders. You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure, while maintaining a positive and collaborative approach.
