Applications are invited for a one-year fixed-term Departmental Lecturership in Early Modern and Modern Art History, tenable from 1 October 2026.
The appointee will be expected to pursue advanced study and research in the Early Modern and Modern Art History while delivering high-quality teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities will include tutorials, classes, lectures, and dissertation supervision.
The successful candidate will be assigned a mentor who will be a senior member of either the Department or the Faculty. In addition, the History Faculty offers dedicated support for early-career researchers, including assistance with the preparation and submission of grant and fellowship applications through the Faculty Research Coordinator and Research Development Officer.
Responsibilities- Play a central role in the teaching of the Early Modern and Modern Art History curriculum, including co-teaching key compulsory undergraduate courses taken by all students, as well as contributing lectures to other core papers.
- Supervise a small number of BA and MSt dissertations and contribute to departmental activities, including the UNIQ summer school, research symposia, and other academic events.
- Fulfill administrative responsibilities and marking duties as part of the role.
- Completed doctorate in a relevant field, or evidence that a doctorate is close to completion (e.g., candidates who have submitted their dissertation will be considered, subject to successful examination).
- Aptitude for and appropriate experience of teaching Early Modern and Modern Art History at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge to develop course materials and research proposals.
- Ability to take on administrative responsibilities such as convening undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
- A publication record commensurate with career stage, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of Early Modern and Modern Art History.
- Ability to use technological innovations to improve teaching and research (desirable).
