A specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Oxford is seeking a passionate and dedicated Mental Health Assistant to support students aged 11-16 with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical experience working with vulnerable young people in a highly rewarding setting while building the skills needed for future postgraduate study or professional training.
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will:
Support students with social, emotional and mental health needs both in and out of the classroom.
Build positive, therapeutic relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience.
Assist with therapeutic interventions, group activities and emotional regulation strategies.
Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop social and coping skills.
Work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and pastoral staff within a specialist SEMH setting.
Gain invaluable experience supporting young people with complex behavioural and emotional needs.

Excellent experience for aspiring Clinical, Educational or Forensic Psychologists.
Develop an understanding of child development, behaviour and trauma-informed practice.
Gain exposure to mental health interventions and behaviour management techniques.
Work with young people who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma or additional SEN needs.
Strengthen your application for postgraduate study, research roles or careers within mental health, education, youth justice or social care.
We're looking for:
A Psychology, Criminology or related graduate (or someone with a strong interest in mental health and behaviour).
A caring, empathetic and resilient individual.
Excellent communication and active listening skills.
Confidence working with young people who may display challenging behaviour.
