Secondary schools, Sixth Form colleges, and academies across Oxford and surrounding Oxfordshire (OX postcodes, including Central Oxford, Headington, Cowley, and Summertown) are seeking articulate, engaging History Specialists for flexible day-to-day and short-term supply cover across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.

Role Overview

As a specialist History Supply Teacher, you will step into pre-planned History lessons across various secondary settings in Oxford. Schools value subject specialists who can lead high-level classroom discussions on historical sources, evaluate cause-and-consequence arguments, and maintain a focused learning environment.

This position offers complete flexibility: choose to work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week with zero lesson planning, marking, or report-writing obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-set History lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level)
  • Guide pupils through source analysis, historical interpretations, timelines, and analytical essay structures
  • Foster structured debate, historical inquiry, and critical evaluation of past events
  • Maintain strong classroom management and a quiet, focused environment for reading and writing
  • Complete electronic attendance registers accurately at the start of each period
  • Leave structured written feedback and handover notes for returning departmental staff

Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK equivalent (ECTs, Experienced Teachers, and FE/HE lecturers with secondary experience welcome)
  • Honors degree in History, Economic History, Ancient History, or a closely related discipline
  • Good familiarity with secondary History exam specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR)
  • Excellent classroom management, analytical communication, and literacy skills
  • An active DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
