Mechanical Design Engineer - Advanced Wind Energy Systems
📍 Oxford, UK
A specialist engineering organisation focused on improving wind turbine blade performance is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of high-efficiency aerodynamic components.
This position offers full lifecycle involvement from early-stage concept development through detailed design, validation, and release to manufacture within a collaborative, technically rigorous environment.
RoleYou will translate aerodynamic and structural requirements into robust, production-ready mechanical designs, working closely with CFD and FEA specialists. The role requires strong 3D modelling capability, a sound grasp of composite structures, and a practical understanding of design-for-manufacture principles.
This is a hands‑on engineering role suited to someone comfortable operating across concept development, detailed design, and supplier engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Develop surface and solid CAD models for aerodynamic mechanical components
- Produce detailed manufacturing drawings and technical definition packages
- Conduct design‑for‑manufacture reviews, particularly for composite assemblies
- Support product validation activities and iterative design refinement
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure performance, structural integrity, and manufacturability are aligned
- Contribute to technical discussions and stakeholder presentations
Essential
- Strong 3D CAD capability (CATIA V5 surfacing experience preferred)
- Mechanical design experience within composite structures
- Working knowledge of GD&T, limits, and fits
- Understanding of full product development lifecycle
Desirable
- Exposure to Six Sigma or structured development methodologies (e.g., IDOV)
- Experience working in performance‑driven engineering environments
