Planning Manager

DescriptionWe are looking for a Planning Manager to support the delivery of critical UK electricity infrastructure projects, ensuring planning approvals, conditions, and compliance requirements are effectively managed to keep construction programmes on track. This role sits at the centre of pre‑construction and delivery, working closely with clients, engineers, and planning authorities in a fast‑paced Tier 1 contractor environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead planning management across multiple electricity infrastructure projects
- Prepare, submit, and manage planning applications, approvals, and variations
- Track and discharge planning conditions and ensure ongoing compliance during construction
- Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees, and landowners
- Provide planning input into construction methodology, sequencing, and access arrangements
- Collaborate with design, engineering, environmental, and delivery teams to support submissions
- Maintain planning trackers, records, and reporting to support programme governance and audits
- Identify planning risks and implement practical mitigation strategies
- Support stakeholder and community engagement where required during construction
- Degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- RTPI chartered or working towards chartership
- Experience in planning within infrastructure, consultancy, or contractor environments
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system and construction phase compliance
- Experience working on live projects or multiple concurrent schemes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational skills with a detail-focused and solution-driven approach
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience in electricity infrastructure (substations, overhead lines, underground cabling)
- Experience working within Tier 1 contractor environments
- Knowledge of planning conditions, CEMP management, and construction phase approvals
- Understanding of how planning integrates with programme, engineering, and cost delivery
- Experience working with major infrastructure or utility clients
