Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to work on cutting-edge automation and advanced manufacturing technology?
We're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering company developing bespoke automated equipment for high-tech manufacturing environments. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging, low-volume, high-value machinery where you'll take ownership of designs from concept through to production.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll design sophisticated electrical systems for precision automation equipment while contributing to the development of next-generation products used by global manufacturers.
The Role
You'll be responsible for the electrical design of complex capital equipment, producing high-quality schematics, control panel designs and documentation while ensuring compliance with relevant electrical safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single-line diagrams using EPlan Electric P8.
Design control panels, power distribution systems, motion control panels and wiring harnesses.
Perform electrical calculations including power/load analysis, component selection and safety assessments.
Ensure designs comply with CE/UKCA requirements and relevant industry standards.
Manage design documentation, BOMs and configuration control.
Support prototype builds, testing and design validation.
Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Liaise with suppliers to support production and resolve technical issues.
Provide technical support to internal engineering teams when required.
Contribute to continuous improvement, engineering standards and future product development.
About You
You'll have experience designing electrical systems for industrial machinery or automated equipment and enjoy solving complex engineering challenges.
Essential Skills & Experience
5+ years' experience in electrical design for industrial machinery, automation or capital equipment.
Strong proficiency with EPlan Electric P8.
Experience designing control panels, motion control systems and power distribution.
Knowledge of electrical safety standards including IEC (phone number removed), ISO 13849 and CE/UKCA compliance.
Experience producing complete electrical documentation including schematics, BOMs and build instructions.
Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable
Experience with laser systems, optics or precision automation equipment.
Product development from concept through to production.
Experience with Autodesk Vault or similar document management systems.
Six Sigma, 8D or Root Cause Analysis.
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
