Work Lyf Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering organisation for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Contract Maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with strong diesel engine experience to work on a fleet of locomotives across the UK, providing both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and operational performance.
The Role
Working predominantly as a lone engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and modifications across customer sites throughout the UK. You will play a vital role in ensuring fleet availability while delivering exceptional service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
- Complete reliability inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
- Identify potential fleet issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in a rolling day/night on-call rota.
- Provide technical support and advice to customers and colleagues.
- Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and industry regulations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and ongoing fleet upgrades.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
- BTEC National Certificate, ONC in Engineering, or similar qualification.
- Proven experience working with diesel engines and associated systems.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Rail industry experience.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS).
- Emergency First Aid qualification.
- Safety Critical competence experience.
