Are you a Physics graduate who enjoys experimental work and wants to build a career working with advanced laser technology?

An innovative technology company developing high value manufacturing equipment is looking for a Graduate Laser Applications Engineer to join its R&D team in Oxfordshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Physics, Applied Physics or related graduate who enjoys being in the laboratory, designing experiments and understanding why things behave the way they do.

You will work alongside experienced laser specialists developing processes using advanced short pulse solid state lasers and beam delivery systems. The technology is used within high technology manufacturing applications.

Rather than simply operating existing equipment, you will investigate how lasers interact with different materials, design and conduct experiments, analyse the results and help develop new manufacturing processes.

The role will involve:

• Designing and carrying out laser experiments

• Investigating and optimising laser material interactions

• Operating laser systems and optical equipment

• Using microscopy, metrology and diagnostic equipment to analyse results

• Adjusting laser parameters and evaluating their effect on different materials

• Analysing experimental data and drawing meaningful conclusions

• Developing experimental methods and process control techniques

• Working with software and instrumentation for data acquisition and analysis

• Maintaining clear records of experiments, results and conclusions

• Working alongside experienced physicists and engineers on new technology development

We would like to hear from graduates with:

• A BSc, MPhys or MSc in Physics, Applied Physics or a closely related subject

• A strong understanding of optics and fundamental physics

• An interest in lasers, materials science and experimental physics

• Good practical laboratory skills

• A methodical and analytical approach to experimentation

• Genuine curiosity about how complex physical systems work

• An interest in applying physics to real world engineering problems

Experience gained through university projects involving lasers, optics, optical alignment, spectroscopy, microscopy, metrology or materials characterisation would be particularly useful.

Any experience with Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW for experimental data analysis, instrument control or automation would also be advantageous.

You do not need previous commercial laser experience. The company is looking for someone with strong fundamentals, practical aptitude and the enthusiasm to learn from experienced specialists.

There may also be opportunities for occasional international travel as your experience develops.
