At Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre, Mitie provides custody services, welfare support, regime activities and opportunities that help people feel safe, respected and supported. We're looking for professional, caring and resilient people to join our team as Detention Custody Officers (DCOs).
Job OverviewThis is a rewarding and fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. As a DCO, you'll play a vital role in supporting individuals while helping to maintain a safe, secure and respectful environment for all.
Main Duties- Provide safe, secure and respectful environment, treating everyone with humanity and professionalism.
- Encourage individuals to participate in recreational activities and opportunities for personal and cultural development.
- Complete audits, administration, checks and searches, accurately and with integrity recording information efficiently on our systems.
- Identify and respond appropriately to concerns relating to physical or mental wellbeing.
Being a Detention Custody Officer requires emotional intelligence, patience, resilience and professionalism. You'll have strong communication skills and enjoy working as part of a diverse team. There will be times when you need to manage challenging situations, resolve conflict or support vulnerable individuals.

Specific RequirementsPlease note that all offers of employment are subject to security clearance and enhanced background checks:
- You must be a British Citizen, EU citizen with settled status, or have an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain).
- Bankruptcy history, CCJs, social media activity and criminal convictions will be checked.
- You must have lived in the UK for the past three years with no significant footprint outside of the UK other than for normal holidays.
- You will also be required to pass a basic Maths and English test, and a mobility test.
Due to the safety-critical nature of this role, we require that employees are not under the influence of any substance—including prescribed medication—that may impair their ability to perform their duties safely. This includes any THC-based prescriptions due to the lack of reliable evidence on safe levels of THC in the system.
