Your Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive General Ledger
Assistant to join our finance team. This role will support the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and reporting, contributing to the integrity of the organisation’s financial records. The successful candidate will assist with month-end and year-end close processes, maintain the fixed asset register, and perform balance sheet reconciliations. You will also provide analysis and commentary on reconciliations, support VAT and CIS return preparation, and assist during statutory audits.

In this role, you will be involved in a wide range of finance activities, including posting routine journal entries, coordinating invoice approval workflows, and supporting the development and implementation of financial systems. You will work closely with the accounts payable team to ensure accurate transaction processing and play a key part in meeting critical deadlines for financial reporting and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to core accounting processes and contribute to the smooth running of the finance function within a dynamic organisation.

Your

Responsibilities:
  • Post routine journal entries including accruals, prepayments, allocations, and adjustments.
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including posting asset additions/disposals.
  • Assist with monthly ledger close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations ensuring reconciliations on ledger accounts are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Providing analysis and commentary of the ledger reconciliations owned and reconciled.
  • Assist with coordination of transactional activity, including invoice approval workflows and funds requests.
  • Support CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) return preparation.
  • Support the preparation of VAT returns.
  • Work to deadlines to ensure timely month end and year-end financial close processes.

    Assist with ledger matters during the annual statutory audit, including preparation of audit files.
  • Work with the accounts payable team to ensure financial transaction processing is accurate.
  • Assist with the continued development and implementation of financial systems across the organisation.
Essential Skills, Qualifications &

Experience:
  • Studying towards an accountancy qualification (ACA or ACCA).
  • Familiarity with accountancy software packages (ERP systems preferred e.g. Oracle Fusion).
  • Strong excel and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of UK accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Experience in transaction processing and account reconciliations within a finance team of an organisation.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced, high-growth environment is an advantage.
