Are you a skilled Environmental Health, or related regulatory, professional looking to shape services that make a real difference? Are you self‑motivated, adaptable, flexible in your approach and keen to develop? If yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Residential Regulation Team as a Principal Lead Officer.

Oxford City Council is the only council in England to operate all three property licensing schemes, mandatory HMO licensing, additional HMO licensing and selective licensing, across its entire district. Recognised for our proactive approach to regulating the private rented sector, our team uses a wide range of skills in effective and innovative ways to secure real improvements for residents living in privately rented homes.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to join our Residential Regulation Team to help improve housing standards across the city. Our team is responsible for enforcing and improving conditions in all private rented homes using all available legislation. We also deliver planning enforcement, tenancy relations work and a range of public health functions, including statutory nuisance and public health burials.

This is a demanding and rewarding role. You will take personal responsibility for leading on technical and legislative expertise in one or more specialist areas, and you will provide day‑to‑day case supervision while managing more complex cases. A high level of professionalism is essential, and in return, you’ll gain the opportunity to work in a varied and impactful role, collaborating closely with other services and benefiting from the support and experience of our management team within Planning & Regulation.
