About Us

Oxfordshire County Council is looking for a motivated and talented Assistant Planning Officer to join our Minerals and Waste Policy and Strategy Team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of minerals and waste in Oxfordshire-supporting the preparation of the new Minerals and Waste Plan and contributing to the delivery of sustainable development across the county.

About the Role

As an Assistant Planning Officer, you will support the Team in preparing and delivering the Minerals and Waste Plan and related policy work. You will be involved in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Evidence gathering, data collation, monitoring and analysis
  • Supporting the preparation of Minerals and Waste Plan, supporting documents and Examination materials
  • Assisting with public consultations and stakeholder engagement
  • Preparing responses to district Local Plans, planning applications and other consultations
  • Supporting GIS work and handling technical planning information

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of plan-making, with the opportunity to work on strategic issues including mineral supply, waste management, and major development proposals.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a 5 - 9 or A
    * to C in GSCE in Maths and English (or equivalent) and to have at least two A Level passes or equivalent in any subject
  • Has the ability to use own judgement in a range of situations
  • Has excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Has understanding and experience using data, insight and performance measures to assess the impact of services and inform decisions and service planning to improve outcomes.
  • Proficient in MS Office
