Charge Nurse - Highfield Adolescent Mental Health Unit - Oxford

Apply for the Charge Nurse – Highfield Adolescent Mental Health Unit – Oxford role at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for compassionate individuals to join us as a Charge Nurse at the Highfield Unit, a state‑of‑the‑art purpose‑built hospital which specialises in the care of those aged 11‑18.

The Highfield Unit offers 18 inpatient beds to those young people who require intensive support and treatment not possible within the community. We assess and treat those with a wide range of disorders and difficulties including eating disorders, psychosis, bi‑polar/mood disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, self‑harm and relationship/attachment‑based difficulties. We also have a 2‑bed area for those that need high‑dependency care.

Our service aims to provide excellent, safe care with the highest quality of nursing care to young people and their families who require support from the inpatient team. We pride ourselves on being flexible, passionate and dynamic in our approach to treatment and care and aim to work with young people in a collaborative and holistic manner. Our practice is guided by evidence and best‑practice and we believe excellent clinical supervision and reflective spaces are essential to maintain wellbeing and reflective practice.

We have a large MDT team to work alongside, including teachers, psychologists, dietitians, occupational therapists, family therapists, consultants and medical teams, administrators, and healthcare assistants. There is the opportunity to work alongside different disciplines to share knowledge, ideas and ensure that the assessment of a young person and their family is thorough and individualised.

You will support the Clinical Nurse Leads  Modern Matron in leading the nursing team; this includes staff recruitment, assisting with interviews, delivering preceptorship, completing inductions, identifying training needs within the nursing team and resolving how to address these.

You will also assist in ensuring that the unit meets all Trust and National policies and guidelines and may support the implementation of any audits or changes in standards or policy alterations. You will be part of a team that identifies training needs and delivers these to the nursing team, providing day‑to‑day leadership to the ward and supporting the nursing team to develop.
