The Radiotherapy Physics Group provides a specialist clinical scientific service to the Radiotherapy Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Radiotherapy service treats ~4000 patients/year across our three sites (Oxford, Swindon and Milton Keynes), housing eight linacs, four CTs and HDR brachytherapy. We offer a comprehensive range of treatment including SA & SRS.
Main duties of the jobThis post combines specialist clinical expertise in Radiotherapy Physics with operational management and leadership. The postholder provides expert clinical advice requiring advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in Radiotherapy Physics. This role also includes leading on a specialised area of Radiotherapy Physics (e.g., radiation protection, computing, automation, imaging modalities etc) dependant on the postholder's specific skill and experience.

Job responsibilitiesStaff Management:
Line management of Principal/Senior Clinical Scientists/Technologists, including managing sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance matters, recruitment, induction, career development, appraisals, work allocation and personal support for sensitive issues. Management and implementation of rostering including flexible working patterns and annual leave.
Planning and Operations:
Plan and prioritise activity, direct and deploy staff, and resources as required to meet service demands across three sites (Oxford, Milton Keynes & Swindon). This includes creating rotas to cover flexible shift patterns for highly specialist staff and services; monitoring, modelling, reporting and implementing resourcing vs demand in‑line with current and projected local requirements, national cancer waiting‑time targets and national staffing recommendations;
maintaining a system for recording local staff establishment vs budget allocation; contribution to multidisciplinary management arrangements for the Radiotherapy service; radiotherapy incident investigation and handling.
Policy and Strategy:
With the HoRTP, be responsible for developing and implementing policy and service changes within Radiotherapy Physics and (where appropriate) Radiotherapy, interfacing with other departments where necessary. This includes managing, writing, reviewing and approving quality management system documents and risk assessments.
Financial and Asset Management:
With the HoRTP, monitor and manage the pay and non‑pay budget for Radiotherapy Physics, provide written justification for expenditures and act as first‑line approver for requisitions.
