Senior Healthcare Scientist
The position is Senior Healthcare Scientist within the Department of Immunology at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will play a key role in delivering and developing the clinical immunology service through day‑to‑day management of the laboratory section, provision of specialist expertise, and participation in service development and quality assurance activities.

- Work as part of the team providing a clinical diagnostic service in immunology to the Trust, general practice, other UK and overseas partners and clinical trials.
- Manage day‑to‑day workload and supervise junior staff, including line management responsibilities for appraisal, performance and career development.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and LIMS, Task management software and other diagnostic software.
- Carry out laboratory tests, verify and validate diagnostic results and manage quality control and assurance procedures.
- Develop and implement new equipment and assays, coordinate change processes and engage in service improvement initiatives.
- Participate in laboratory‑wide quality procedures such as audit, non‑compliance and inspection.
- Support stock management and procurement of consumables and diagnostic kits.
- Provide expert scientific and technical advice to healthcare professionals and external partners.
- Participate in clinical audit initiatives, CPD activities and the Trust’s annual values‑based appraisal process.
- HCPC registered Clinical Scientist or Biomedical Scientist.
- M level qualification in immunology or related biomedical subject.
- Clinical experience in an NHS diagnostic laboratory, preferably immunology.
- Experience in supervising and training staff.
- Experience in quality management and assay verification to UKAS standards.
- Familiarity with LIMS, Task management software and other laboratory software.
- Excellent scientific knowledge of immunology techniques and assays.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills; ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
- Methodical, precise, reliable and trustworthy.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Ability to work as a team member and deal with complex problems.
- Prepared to work with biological materials and light physical work.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
- Compliance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and disclosure and barring service check.
- Prepared to work with biological materials and a variety of sample types.

Contract and salaryPermanent full‑time position. Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 a year, pro rata.
