Undertake Estates operations and maintenance work across the Trust’s sites as directed by line management. This includes tasks that may be demanding and/or non‑routine, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards, policies and procedures.

Assist with the carrying out planned engineering/building maintenance programmes to ensure compliance with key standards, legislative and performance related (as defined through Service Level Agreement) – also meeting NHS Litigation Authority requirements.

Exchange maintenance and building project‑related information with specialists and non‑specialists, communicating technical, commercial and safety matters with contractors and suppliers.

Evaluate safety measures and the impact of works and communicate risks to staff, colleagues and patients.

• Work in accordance with HTM's, HBN's, Model Specifications, statutory regulations, codes of practice, British Standards and Trust policies.
• Participate in the Trust’s labour control scheme, completing required paperwork such as job dockets and timesheets.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance – including water sampling, flushing and small plumbing tasks.
• Prioritise changing workloads and act proactively to address work requests in conjunction with the Estates Operations Manager/Mechanical Team Leader.
• Assist other trades as required and work in unpleasant or hazardous environments (e.g., steam leaks, bodily fluids, raw sewage).
• Carry out work in emotionally sensitive areas (mortuary, children’s ward, general wards, ITU).
• Operate Trust communication devices (two‑way radio, mobile phones) to respond immediately to emergencies.
• Process own timesheets and job dockets.
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade.

• Perform minor repair works and general maintenance at the request of the Mechanical Team Leader/Supervisor (plumbing, heating).
• Conduct routine planned preventive maintenance inspections per Trust procedures.
• Assist with cross‑trade works, including mechanical and building repairs.
• Complete all required report sheets.
• Always interpret and follow regulations; notify the Mechanical Team Leader/Supervisor of any deviations.
• Use all relevant PPE, tools and equipment safely.
• Assist Competent Persons with mechanical installations and enabling works, following their instructions.

• NC/HNC/HND in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Full driving licence.
• Training in Health & Safety (e.g., First Aid).

• Knowledge of maintenance methodologies.
• Experience in a similar role.
• Knowledge of HTM's, HBN's and Estates specific legislation.
• Experience developing and working within a safe system of work.
