Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you an experienced Farm Manager looking to make a meaningful impact? Join the Oxford Green Estate team at the University of Oxford and lead the day-to-day running of a unique mixed farm that supports food production, environmental projects, and research.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to manage a 900-acre mixed farm that is part of the University of Oxford's Oxford Green Estate. The farm includes livestock, grassland, and arable crops and plays a critical role in supporting farming, environmental projects, and agricultural research.

As Farm Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the farm, making sure operations are safe, efficient, and productive. You will plan and manage livestock and cropping activities, coordinate staff and contractors, maintain farm infrastructure, and help manage budgets and farm records. You will also work closely with research teams and farming partners to support field trials, new farming approaches, and environmental schemes.

This is a varied role that offers the chance to be involved in everything from practical farm management to longer-term planning and improvement projects. The role requires flexibility to sometimes work outside standard hours, including weekends, in line with operational requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day farm operations for livestock and arable enterprises.
  • Plan and oversee livestock and cropping activities.
  • Coordinate staff and contractors, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain farm infrastructure and manage budgets and records.
  • Collaborate with research teams on field trials and new farming approaches.
  • Support environmental schemes and biodiversity initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing mixed farming operations involving both livestock and arable enterprises.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience managing farm operations, resources, and budgets effectively.
  • Knowledge of agricultural compliance, Health & Safety, and sustainable farming practices.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence.
Benefits
  • 38 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays) with the option to purchase up to 10 extra days and additional leave after long service.
  • One of the most generous family leave schemes in UK higher education, offering up to 26 weeks of full‑pay maternity and adoption leave, plus 12 weeks of full‑pay paternity/partner leave.
  • On‑site accommodation is provided.
  • Full use of a farm vehicle is included.
  • Affordable and sustainable commuting options, including a cycle loan scheme, discounted bus travel, and season ticket loans.
  • Access to a vibrant community through social, cultural, and sports clubs.
