Our client Oxfordshire county council is looking for an Assistant Team Manager to join their Care leaver service.

Job Summary

The Assistant Team Manager provides day‑to‑day operational leadership, supervision, and practice oversight within the social care team, ensuring that high‑quality, timely assessments and interventions are delivered to children, young people, and families. Working closely with the Team Manager, the post holder supports the safe allocation and progression of referrals across Family Help, Child in Need, Child Protection, Public Law Outline, Children We Care For, and Care Leavers pathways.

The role contributes to performance management, quality assurance, and continuous practice improvement, promoting strong multi‑agency working and ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities. Through effective supervision, decision‑making, and leadership, the Assistant Team Manager helps maintain high standards of safeguarding practice and ensures that children's needs, safety, and voices remain central to all case planning and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

This is a list of the main duties or tasks that the post holder will be expected to undertake.

Under the direction of the Team Manager, responsible for the allocation and timely progression of new referrals into the team via the duty system,
Assist the Team Manager with performance management to meet statutory duties and key targets, operate within local frameworks, and help improve team performance
Lead improvements in assessment and care planning, guide team discussions and workshops, and inform staff about practice updates and research.
To lead case supervision in respect of children and families in the absence of the team manager.
To support the team manager with the induction of new staff.
To convene and chair a range of professional and statutory meetings.
To ensure direct reports' effective multi-agency working with partner agencies.
To promote consistently high standards of practice across the team that put the needs of children and young people at the forefront of all activity.
To ensure robust quality assurance of casework across the team and to participate in the Service's Quality Assurance Framework, undertaking monthly audits and themed audits as required.
