An innovative biotechnology company is developing sustainable alternatives to traditionally produced food products.
As the business progresses its technology from laboratory development into larger-scale production, it is expanding its pilot plant team and looking for a hands‑on Pilot Plant Bioprocess Technician
.
This is an opportunity to work with bioreactor processes at 50–600 L scale and support the transfer of emerging biotechnology into a manufacturing environment.
The RoleWorking within the pilot plant and scale‑up team, you will:
- Support pilot-scale bioreactor operations at 50–600 L scale.
- Execute batch, fed-batch and potentially perfusion processes.
- Prepare, operate and monitor stainless‑steel bioreactor systems.
- Support the scale‑up of processes from laboratory development into pilot‑scale production.
- Assist with technology transfer between R&D and manufacturing.
- Complete batch records and production documentation accurately.
- Monitor process parameters and bioreactor control systems.
- Collect and analyse process data.
- Prepare reports and communicate findings to the wider team.
- Support equipment preparation, cleaning and routine pilot plant activities.
- Work closely with R&D, Quality and Operations teams.
- Help troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
You will ideally have:
- A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, bioprocessing or a related discipline.
- Around three years’ experience working in a biotechnology, bioprocessing, fermentation or pilot plant environment.
- Hands‑on experience operating stainless‑steel pilot‑scale reactors or bioreactors.
- An understanding of bioreactor control systems and PID control loops.
- Familiarity with batch, fed-batch or perfusion processing.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when completing batch records and technical documentation.
- Good communication and practical problem-solving skills.
Experience with mammalian cell culture would be particularly relevant, although candidates from fermentation, microbial processing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing or other bioprocess environments are also encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of GMP or similar controlled manufacturing practices would be advantageous but is not essential.
