Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care team.

Hours:

37.5 per week (minimum 23 hours per week);
Ramlised shifts across PCCU, Outreach and Retrieval services as negotiated with the Senior Nursing Team.

Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum. Site:
John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

• Provide clinical leadership ensuring a high standard of individualised nursing and family‑centred care is delivered to critically ill children.
• Act as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team, communicating effectively with all levels of medical and nursing staff.
• Uphold PCCU’s Nursing Philosophy of Care.
• Effectively manage PCCU on a day‑to‑day basis in the absence of a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

Post holders will work a minimum of 23 hours per week across days, nights and weekend shifts.

• RSCN (Child)/RN (Adult) NMC Registered
• Recognised UK Paediatric Critical Care Course (e.g. PCCS or HEI accredited)
• Degree level study or working towards a degree
• Evidence of commitment to teaching staff and students

• Relevant Critical Care nursing experience
• Demonstrates knowledge of value and use of research findings

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
• Aware of the qualities required of staff working in Critical Care
• Insight into managerial issues in relation to people and resources

• Clinical knowledge in the area of speciality and excellence in practice
• Experience of leading and supporting a team in a clinical area
• Knowledge/experience of audit, implementation of quality improvement measures, and risk management

• Evidence of continuing professional development
