Salary: This is a Grade 7 role with a pro-rated salary of £12,046 - £14,801, based on part-time hours and term-time working. Full-time equivalent salary is £39,150 - £48,104 per annum (with the potential to increase to £52,545 over time within discretionary points).

Hours: 20 hours per week for 30 weeks per year (0th week to 9th week each term). Ideally, we are seeking cover 4 hours a day, for 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, on site in College.

Balliol CollegeSituated in an historic site in central Oxford, Balliol has been a hub of learning and community since its foundation in 1263. As one of the larger colleges within the University of Oxford, it is home to roughly 860 students, with undergraduates making up just under half of the student body. The College also employs over 80 Fellows, 50 lecturers, and about 180 support staff, with Dame Helen Ghosh as its current Master.

The college seeks to appoint a part-time, term-time only (weeks 0th to 9th) College Nurse. The College Nurse will provide medical and other appropriate support to students.
The College Nurse provides a confidential, professional and student-centred nursing service to members of the College community, with a particular focus on supporting the health, wellbeing and welfare of undergraduate and graduate students.
Working closely with the Welfare Lead and other College and University support services, the postholder will provide clinical advice, health assessment, wellbeing support, welfare checks, health promotion activities, and appropriate referrals, helping students to manage both physical and mental health concerns and enabling them to participate fully in College life.
Job duties and responsibilitiesThe main duties are included below. This is not an exhaustive list and may be amended in line with College needs.
- Provide regular nurse‑led drop‑in sessions and appointments for undergraduate and graduate students during term time.
- Assess, advise and support students presenting with physical health concerns, minor illness or injury, and mental health or wellbeing difficulties, referring to appropriate services where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with College Welfare Lead, College Doctors, NHS services, University Counselling Service, Disability Advisory Service and other relevant agencies to support students' health and wellbeing.
- Support students with chronic health conditions, disabilities or ongoing healthcare needs, helping them access appropriate adjustments and services.
- Assist with the induction of new students, including healthcare registration processes and guidance on accessing NHS, dental and other healthcare services.
- Maintain appropriate clinical records in accordance with NMC standards, confidentiality requirements, GDPR and College policies.
- Contribute to safeguarding and student welfare processes, complete safety plans with students, escalate concerns appropriately and participate in case discussions where required.
- Maintain CQC compliant standards and work collaboratively with clinical supervision provided by our external provider.
- Provide health promotion and wellbeing initiatives, including advice on healthy lifestyles, self‑care, and preventative healthcare. This could include running events and/or producing written content such as newsletter or social media material.
- Oversee the provision and management of first aid supplies and contribute to the College's wider health and safety arrangements.
- Attend the twice‑termly extended welfare team meetings and attend the College weekly welfare case meetings.
