Registered Nurse

To ensure excellent patient care by planning and implementing the relevant procedures to meet the individual needs of the patients attending the NOC MOPs service maintaining patient records accordingly. Be responsible for the assessment of care needs for the patients attending the Outpatients department, including the development, implementation and evaluation of care. To contribute to the effective running of our minor operations service, liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of patient care.

Actively contribute to the continuing development of nursing practice and to act as a mentor for pre and post registration students. The post holder must be aware of the individuals responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary any untoward incident or accident or potentially hazardous environment., The key activities/roles for this post in relation to the Minor operation service include, but are not limited to, supporting the effective running of the theatre lists both from the pre operative room and/or the clinic base.

In terms of minor operations theatre room activity, the postholder will be expected to undertake and assist in the scrubbing and circulating , offer advice to colleagues (registered & non-registered) and patients regarding post operative instructions and advice,provide information surrounding the care of wounds, administer medications as necessary, give medication advice), be involved in the ordering of necessary consumables used in the service.

Role activities in relation to other clinics include, but again are not limited to, chaperoning in clinic, undertaking and documenting physiological observations to aid the Doctors in the direct care of patients (such as height, weight, blood pressure), being actively involved in the care of unwell patients when necessary and supporting their colleagues in these events, carrying out investigations within the department such as phlebotomy or urinalysis/pregnancy testing or sign-posting patients to other department when the investigations are external to the department for example X-ray or ECG.

The registered nurse, once competent, may also act as scrub nurse within the minor operation theatre and offer post-procedure care/advice to the patient once the procedure is complete. The Registered Nurse is also necessary to ensure staff staffing levels across the full working / operational times of the department. The post-holder will also be expected to support both medical and nursing students who may be on placement/education days in the department, helping them to have a positive experience of the Outpatient environment.

Registered nurses within the outpatient department act as role models and are a source of support and leadership for their junior and/or non-registered colleagues, undertaking annual appraisals with a small number of junior colleagues, and being involved in wellbeing activity/tasks with the same small group of junior colleagues; it is expected that on occasion the registered nurse may co-ordinate the department as the senior nurse.

• Holds current UK NMC Registration, with evidence of continuing professional development
• BSc Nursing Degree
• Willing to undertake self-development activities to improve clinical knowledge & skills, such as training to apply plaster casts.
• Demonstrates the ability to deliver excellent patient care, highlighting with compassion, enthusiasm, and self-motivation.
• Demonstrates good command of written and spoken English, giving examples of excellent communication skills used in practice
• Theatre scrub / circulating experience

• Have an interest, or experience, of Plastic surgery
• Achieved or working towards peri-operative management course
