An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our nursing team, within the Specialist Surgery Outpatient Nursing team working in the Plastic Surgery Minor Operations Service based at the NOC.

We are looking for a Band 5 Registered Nurse, who has an interest in Outpatient / Theatre Nursing to join our team!

We are a friendly patient centred department delivering high quality compassionate care with integrity and respect within our variety of elective & Plastic surgery trauma Minor Ops service, working alongside consultants and the wider MDT.

This post will focused and support the work within our Plastic surgery minor ops service, but will involve work in some of our other clinics too. We hold outpatient clinics for a wide variety of specialties, and no two days are the same.

The Outpatient's Department is open 5 days a week, excluding bank holidays, opening hours from 7.30am until 6pm on weekdays.

Informal visits are highly recommended and encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To ensure excellent patient care by planning and implementing the relevant procedures to meet the individual needs of the patients attending the NOC MOPs service maintaining patient records accordingly.

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs for the patients attending the Outpatients department, including the development, implementation and evaluation of care.

To contribute to the effective running of our minor operations service, liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of patient care.

Actively contribute to the continuing development of nursing practice and to act as a mentor for pre and post registration students.

The post holder must be aware of the individuals responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary any untoward incident or accident or potentially hazardous environment.

Job responsibilities

The key activities/roles for this post in relation to the Minor operation service include, but are not limited to, supporting the effective running of the theatre lists both from the pre operative room and/or the clinic base. In terms of minor operations theatre room activity, the postholder will be expected to undertake and assist in the scrubbing and circulating , offer advice to colleagues (registered & non-registered) and patients regarding post operative instructions and advice,provide information surrounding the care of wounds, administer medications as necessary, give medication advice), be involved in the ordering of necessary consumables used in the service.

Role activities in relation to other clinics include, but again are not limited to, chaperoning in clinic, undertaking and documenting physiological observations to aid the Doctors in the direct care of patients (such as height, weight, blood pressure), being actively involved in the care of unwell patients when necessary and supporting their colleagues in these events, carrying out investigations within the department such as phlebotomy or…
