Our nursing teams are central to the delivery of excellent care to cancer patients attending the Oxford University Hospital. Our teams deliver a holistic approach to patient care using the latest technologies to support individualised assessments and care planning. You will work closely with other members of the specialist nursing teams, the wider MDT and cancer services, providing a service across care boundaries in liaison with primary and palliative care.

You will be part of a wider team of cancer specialist nurses and be supported in your on-going development.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and provide comprehensive clinical care, specialist advice, and support to patients in the HPB Cancer Specialist Nursing service.
  • To work within the ACCEND capabilities framework and develop a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate Advanced level working (see additional document for capabilities).
  • Work as an autonomous, specialist practitioner alongside members of the multidisciplinary team in HPB cancer specialist nursing service.
  • Service specific skills, tasks or procedures required are advanced communication skills, delivery of holistic needs assessments and personalised care plans, clinical assessment and triage skills, wound assessment/ management, delivery of specialist dietetic advice, excellent organisational skills, ability to co-ordinate care across other health care providers/Trusts, and ability to deliver specialised health and wellbeing advice, attendance, and participation in MDT meetings (training to be provided).
  • Administer, assess and prescribe medications, within scope of practice for service [if NMP trained].
  • Develop and deliver a high-quality practitioner led clinic in HPB Cancer Specialist Nursing service.
  • Role will include line management and/or supervision of administrative, support staff and specialist nurses in the service.
  • Be flexible within the HPB Cancer Specialist Nursing service to ensure appropriate specialist cover.
Required qualifications
  • NMC registration
  • First level degree in undergraduate base profession
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to study at Level 7 (either previous Level 6 or level 7 study).
Desirable criteria
  • MSC in relevant subject to role
  • Leadership Course/qualification, Significant experience in speciality
  • Knowledge of cancer treatments
  • Excellent clinical and practical skills
  • Experience of teaching/coaching patients
  • Service improvement / quality improvement experience
  • Demonstratable evidence of research capability, Commitment to evidnecing own professional development and capabilities through the ACCEND CiP framework/portfolio
  • Ability to recognise and analyse complex situations and utilise decision making skills
  • Ability to recognise own limitations and work within scope of practice, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
