Oxford, England, United Kingdom
The University of Oxford is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious early-career scientist to join its dynamic research community as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Immunology. Positioned within the Centre for Immuno-Oncology in the Nuffield Department of Medicine, this role is part of a Cancer Research UK (CRUK)-funded programme focused on uncovering the mechanisms of immuno-suppression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and advancing antibody-based therapeutic strategies.
The post contributes to a collaborative research initiative embedded within the Oxford Liver Cancer Centre of Excellence, where cutting-edge technologies are applied to deepen understanding and innovate new approaches in tumour immunology.
The successful candidate will be involved in dissecting cellular and molecular drivers of immuno-suppression in preclinical models, using advanced techniques including spectral flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Responsibilities include managing independent research projects, contributing to project development and grant applications, supporting supervision and training of doctoral candidates, and authoring high-quality scientific publications. The role also encompasses participation in collaborative research planning and effective laboratory administrative activities within an internationally recognised research environment.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in immunology, cancer biology, molecular oncology or a closely related discipline. Essential expertise includes experience with preclinical mouse models, human immunology and human tissue samples, as well as proficiency in flow cytometry and other single-cell technologies. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong research skills, scientific curiosity, and the ability to contribute effectively to interdisciplinary collaborations.
The position is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis until 31 March 2029, with working on-site in Oxford. Salary is set within the UK Research Grade 7 range of £39,424 to £47,779 per annum, reflecting national research pay scales for postdoctoral scientists in biomedical sciences.
Final date to receive applications – 12 midday on 2 March 2026
