Job Description & How to Apply Below

Postdoctoral Researcher in Spatial Multiomics

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant / Bioinformatician to join a Kidney Research UK-funded project investigating BK virus (BKV) infection in kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for end-stage kidney disease, but long-term outcomes remain limited by complications such as infection and cancer. BK virus reactivation occurs in around one-third of kidney transplant recipients and can lead to inflammation and damage within the transplanted kidney, yet there are currently no effective antiviral treatments available.

This project brings together the expertise of the Bottomley Group, which studies how local and systemic factors influence immune responses in tissue, and the Wing Group, which focuses on the biology of understudied viruses. Using advanced spatial multiomic profiling technologies at the CAMS Oxford Institute Spatial Profiling Hub, the project aims to characterise the molecular landscape of BKV infection within transplanted kidneys and identify factors that drive disease progression.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the computational analysis of spatial multiomic datasets generated through this work. This will include undertaking data quality control, normalisation, batch correction and multiomic integration, as well as contributing to the interpretation of findings and dissemination of results. The postholder will work closely with members of both research groups and will provide bioinformatic guidance to other researchers within the team, including postdoctoral scientists, research assistants, technicians and students.

You will hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, computer science, statistics or a related discipline, together with experience analysing complex biological datasets. You will have strong computational and programming skills, a good understanding of omics data analysis approaches, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team. Experience with spatial omics technologies, multiomic data integration, immunology, virology or transplantation research would be advantageous.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed-term contract until 31 July 2027 and is funded by Kidney Research UK.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 16 June 2026 will be considered. Please quote 187000 on all correspondence.
