Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Computational Vaccinology

Pandemic Sciences Institute, Li Ka Shing Centre for Health and Information Discovery, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7LF

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Computational Vaccinology to join the Pandemic Science Institute’s (PSI) growing efforts in computational vaccinology and vaccine trial design. You will analyse immunological data from the Ch Ad Ox1  NipahB vaccine trial, aiming to help identify a set of immune markers which might serve as early correlates of protection (CoP) against Nipah virus disease.

You will work with immunologists, mathematical modellers and statisticians to develop new frameworks to interpret and evaluate state-of-the-art immune markers as CoPs in vaccine trials and real-world effectiveness studies. There will be the opportunity to collaborate in other immunological modelling and bioinformatics projects in the PSI.

This is a highly multidisciplinary, fixed-term position based at the University of Oxford’s PSI, funded by CEPI and the Wellcome Trust. The role will require close collaboration between data analysts, modellers, immunologists, and trial specialists at the PSI, the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research Bangladesh (icddr,b) and the Bangladesh Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IECDR). In addition to carrying out research to inform ongoing vaccine trial efforts, you will have the opportunity to undertake funded training in machine learning and vaccinology.

You will be part of the wider Pathogen Dynamics group with substantial opportunity for collaboration and career development.

The position is suitable for a highly motivated bioinformatician, statistician, or computational biologist with expertise in machine learning and an interest in immunology, epidemiology and vaccinology. You will hold, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant quantitative field and have expertise in analysing complex datasets using machine learning methods and/or statistics. Proficiency in R, Python, Julia, or other relevant programming languages is essential.

Experience working with systems immunology data will be an advantage, as will evidence of successful collaboration with lab‑based researchers.
