Postdoctoral Immunologist

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Immunologist for the pre-erythrocytic malaria vaccine development programme led by Professor Adrian Hill and Dr. Mehreen Datoo. You will develop and perform immunological assays to measure responses induced by vaccines in clinical trials, with a focus on Plasmodium vivax trials.

The position involves supporting the general programme of immunology in the human pre-erythrocytic (PE) malaria vaccine trials. In addition to clinical trials in Oxford, we have an extensive network of partnership institutions around the world. Liaising and interacting effectively with teams at these sites to train and support clinical trials will be an important aspect of this role and some travel to field sites may be required.

The research involves humoral and cellular immunology techniques carried out with human blood samples including multiplexed serology (using bead-based Luminex technology), ELISA, flow cytometry, and sterile cell culture. Knowledge of R or STATA packages for large dataset management and visualisation would be an advantage. Some CL3 work may be required and full training will be given.

Experience of working to GCP would be an advantage. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to interact productively and accurately with others, working well as part of a team. You will contribute to manuscripts for publication, and therefore, the ability to prepare data for publication, including visualisation and statistical analysis, and ensuring the quality of scientific data is essential.

You will provide day-to-day training and supervision for research assistants and be responsible for leading your own research project within the wider research programme.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a subject relevant to immunology/vaccine development. You must have practical immunology experience assessing humoral and cellular immune responses in infectious disease and/or vaccines. You need to have a keen interest in vaccine development, human immunology, and malaria.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by the European Vaccine Institute.

Research Grade 7:
Salary in range £39,424 - £47,779 per annum (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata)
