Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, South Parks Road, Oxford

Role Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Laboratory Manager/Senior Scientist to join the Molecular Mucosal Immunology group at Oxford.

About the Laboratory

The Molecular Mucosal Immunology laboratory works to understand the complex relationship between intestinal bacteria and the immune system, in both directions. We work in human, murine and in vitro systems, and with a broad range of techniques including bacterial genetics, infection models, synthetic biology, omics, glycobiology, quantitative imaging and flow cytometry.

Key Responsibilities

As lab manager you will support a diverse and energetic team, ensuring the smooth running of the research group. Your duties include day‑to‑day support for practical work, managing lab documentation, supervising biosafety level II and in‑vivo model experimentation across research facilities in Oxford, coordinating between the main research sites, and potentially participating directly in research projects – from designing and performing experiments to coordinating larger translational projects.

Qualifications

and Experience

The post-holder should have a high degree of autonomy and a passion for organization and social coordination. Essential experience includes animal work in the UK and biological research at biosafety level II and above. Desirable experience includes molecular biology/biochemistry and/or immunology, and working in a collaborative international research environment. You should be able to work well with a wide range of people, communicate across departments and organizations, lead in complex decisions, and bring out the best in a team.

Employment

Details

The post is funded via the Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering, initially for a fixed term of two years, with the option to extend if successful. The closing date for applications is midday on Friday 31 July 2026. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
