Oxford | Onsite I £40K - £50k (dependant on experience)
Join an innovative organisation at the forefront of industrial biotechnology, where you'll play a key role in developing and optimising microbial fermentation processes that support more sustainable chemical manufacturing. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fermentation Scientist to apply hands-on expertise in bioreactor operation, process optimisation and enzyme production while working alongside a collaborative R&D team on cutting-edge technology.
The Role
As a Fermentation Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and improving non-GMP microbial fermentation processes for enzyme production. You'll work across laboratory and pilot-scale systems, helping to optimise yields, improve process robustness and support the scale-up of innovative biocatalysts for industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimise microbial fermentation processes for enzyme production.
Operate, monitor and troubleshoot bench- to pilot-scale bioreactors.
Design and carry out fermentation optimisation studies, including media, feeding and induction strategies.
Analyse experimental data and communicate findings with clear technical recommendations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams to support project delivery.
Maintain accurate laboratory records, SOPs and technical documentation.
Support laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and inventory management.
Assist with technology transfer to external manufacturing partners where required.
About You
We're looking for someone with:
A degree in Biology, Industrial Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
Proven industrial experience in non-GMP microbial fermentation.
Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting microbial bioreactors.
Knowledge of fermentation optimisation to improve enzyme yield, productivity and process robustness.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
A proactive approach with strong attention to detail and a passion for scientific innovation.
