Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Postdoctoral Quantum Simulation with Ultracold Atoms (2-Year)

Department of Physics Clarendon Laboratory University of Oxford OX1 3PU

Postdoctoral Research Assistants Department of Physics

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

Department of Physics

Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Assistant positions on the topic of quantum simulation with ultracold atoms

About the Role

The posts are available for a fixed term of 2 years. The two positions are in two separate projects:

(1)
Quantum Simulation with Dipolar gases
:
This project, which is part of the EPSRC progarmme grant on Quantum advnatage in Quantiative Quantum Simulation (QQQS), will involve adapting and using our existing ultracold erbium and potassium machine for studies of e.g. turbulence, dipolar supersolids and polarons.

(2)
Two-dimensional Quantum Field Simulator with Full-State Readout: this EPSRC funded project will investigate quantum-field phenomena using bilayer two-dimensional quantum-gas experiments. The project will build on Oxford's platform for creating continuous, coupled 2D quantum fields from bilayer ultracold atoms at nanokelvin temperatures.

We are seeking two enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Assistants to help in the development and implementation of these research programmes. Duties will also include preparing reports, presentations and scientific papers, and assisting with the supervision of graduate students.

The post-holders will have the opportunity to teach.

About You

Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in experimental quantum optics or atomic physics. Previous experience in the field ultracold atoms will be highly desirable.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a proven track record of high-quality experimental research.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.

Only applications received before Midday(UK time) on Friday 21st August will be considered

Interviews will take place during the week commencing 14th September and will be online.
