Histology Senior Scientist – Histology & Tissue Analysis Oxford | 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Are you an experienced Histology Senior Scientist looking to play a key role within a cutting-edge Immunotherapy research environment?

A highly innovative biotechnology company developing next-generation cancer therapies is seeking a specialist scientist to join its research team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative scientific environment where your expertise in tissue analysis and histology will directly contribute to the advancement of novel oncology programmes.

The Opportunity

Working within a multidisciplinary research team, you will support discovery and preclinical research projects by generating high-quality data from human tissue samples using a range of tissue-based and molecular techniques.

This position is particularly suited to a scientist who enjoys being hands-on in the laboratory and has significant experience analysing tissue samples and interpreting microscopy-based data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and optimise tissue-based assays including:
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
  • Immunofluorescence (IF)
  • In Situ Hybridisation (ISH)
  • Work extensively with human tissue samples including FFPE and fresh frozen material.
  • Conduct microscopy and image analysis to support programme decision-making.
  • Generate, interpret and communicate high-quality scientific data.
  • Support target validation and biomarker research activities.
  • Collaborate closely with research scientists across multiple projects.
  • Contribute to assay troubleshooting, method development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential skillset
  • PhD in a Life Sciences discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Strong hands-on expertise in histology and tissue-based assays.
  • Experience working with human tissue samples.
  • Expertise in Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF) and/or In Situ Hybridisation (ISH).
  • Experience using microscopy and image analysis software.
  • Strong scientific data interpretation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Highly Desirable
  • Oncology, translational research or drug discovery experience.
  • Biomarker or target validation experience.
  • Previous biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
