The Radcliffe Department of Medicine (RDM) at the University of Oxford invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Lars Fugger and a multidisciplinary research team at the MRC Translational Discovery Immunology Unit, based at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital.

This post is full-time and fixed-term until March 31, 2028. As part of a collaborative team of research scientists, computational biologists, and clinicians, the postholder will have access to state-of-the-art technologies and work alongside leading local and international researchers.

Project Scope & Objectives:

The research project investigates the role of immune cells in autoimmune, demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, focusing on patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Utilizing advanced laboratory and analytical techniques, the project seeks to identify novel disease-associated immune cell populations, uncover how environmental factors drive disease onset, and determine how the immune system drives disease progression. The primary objective is to produce clinically translatable research that supports future drug development.

Eligibility

Criteria:
  • Must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Immunology or a closely related biological field.
  • Highly motivated individual with the demonstrated ability to formulate original ideas and research objectives.
Required expertise/skills:
  • Essential requirement for hands-on experience with immune cell-based assays.
  • Previous experience in multiple sclerosis (MS) research is not required.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary environment alongside computational biologists and clinicians.

Salary details: £39,424 to £47,779 per annum
