Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cell Biology

Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, South Parks Road, Oxford

We are seeking to appoint a talented and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a dynamic and productive research group of Dr Girish Ram Mali, based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out a project focused on the cell biology of cilia. The overall goal of the project is to functionally dissect the role of DNAAF9 (axonemal dynein assembly factor
9) in ciliary biology. This will involve CRISPR genetic engineering using relevant ciliated cell lines to knockout DNAAF9 followed by cytological, proteomic and other functional characterisations to investigate the impacts on cilia.

Working within a team of biochemists, cellular and structural biologists, the holder of this position will perform experimental work to apply omics technologies, advanced microscopy and bioimaging methods to understand dynamic cellular aspects of ciliary biology.

In addition to research, the post holder will provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, PhD and project students. The host lab has a strong record of training and nurturing lab members.

The post is available as a fixed-term contract for 1 year in the first instance, with a possibility to extend for another year. Suitable candidates will be mentored and supported to acquire external fellowship funding for their career progression.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 on Friday 28 August 2026. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.

At the Dunn School we are committed to supporting the professional and career development of our postdocs and research staff. To help them thrive and achieve their ambitions, we have created a comprehensive range of opportunities and initiatives designed to provide an exceptional launchpad for their future careers.
