An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the pre-erythrocytic (PE) malaria group at the Jenner Institute, University of Oxford, working under Dr Lisa Stockdale, Head of Pre-erythrocytic Malaria Vaccine Immunology. The Pre-Erythrocytic Malaria Vaccine Group develops and evaluates new malaria vaccines across UK and overseas trials. You will primarily be working on the IMMUSERV project, which aims to assess the immunogenicity of the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine following seasonal mass administration in Burkina Faso and the Gambia.

The role may also involve working on the evaluation of malaria vaccines in other clinical trials.

You will be responsible for undertaking and developing assays (MSD, ELISpot, ELISA, and other functional assays) for evaluation of malaria vaccines in human clinical trials, analysing and presenting data, contributing to manuscripts for publication and training, and supervising junior staff. You will also be required to contribute to scientific papers for publication and directly contribute to scientific discussions with other members of the Jenner Institute in wider projects.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a subject relevant to immunology or vaccine development, as well as having practical immunology experience assessing humoral and cellular immune responses in infectious disease and/or vaccines, ideally in clinical trials. You must have experience in, a programming language such as R or STATA. You should also possess a keen interest in vaccine development, human immunology and malaria.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 18 months and is funded by the Medical Research Council.

    Research Grade 7: £39,424 - £47,779 with a discretionary range to £53,483 p.a. (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
