Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Role The Associate Scientist will sit within a specialist team focused on target identification, running biological assays that contribute to understanding how novel compounds affect plant systems. Day-to-day, this involves generating and maintaining plant lines in vitro, conducting experiments across molecular biology workflows, and contributing to omics-based testing of candidate herbicides. You will record and communicate results clearly, manage multiple work streams to deadline, and bring genuine curiosity to problem-solving and optimisation conversations.
The Associate Scientist will also represent their team in cross-functional scientific discussions, collaborating with colleagues from a range of disciplines to explore the potential of new molecules. The Company This is a growing UK-based agri-tech company with a clear scientific mission: identifying the next generation of herbicides that are safer, more effective, and more sustainable. The business operates on a collaborative, evidence-led culture and values resourcefulness alongside individual development.
Joining here means working in a modern laboratory environment on genuinely novel research, as part of a small, high-performing team. What experience does the Associate Scientist need? A BSc in Plant Sciences, Biology, Agronomy, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline, with a genuine interest in plant biology — a Master's or relevant industry experience is a plus. Hands-on laboratory experience, including working with plant science, genetics, tissue culture, or molecular biology techniques.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to run several experiments concurrently, meet deadlines, and maintain thorough, accurate records. A collaborative and proactive approach: someone who communicates openly, listens well, and is comfortable working across a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment. So What's Next? If you are an Associate Scientist and would like to find out more, please apply below and I will be in touch shortly to discuss the opportunity in more detail.
