The Radcliffe Department of Medicine and St Cross College intend to appoint to the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professorship of Developmental and Stem Cell Biology as Applied to Medicine. Based principally in the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM), this prestigious statutory professorship offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of developmental and stem cell biology at Oxford and beyond.

The successful candidate will also hold an Official Fellowship at St Cross College.

As Bass Professor, you will provide scientific vision and senior academic leadership across the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and the wider University, leading a world-class programme of research and shaping the future direction of developmental and stem cell biology. You will catalise cross-disciplinary research, connect existing strengths across Oxford, and accelerate the translation of fundamental discoveries into improvements in human health.

You will advance RDM's and WIMM's leadership in molecular medicine through research of major relevance to human disease, with potential applications across areas including blood and immune disease, cancer, cellular ageing, regenerative medicine and cell therapies. We welcome candidates whose work spans fundamental discovery, translational science or experimental medicine and who bring a compelling vision for how the field will develop over the next 10–15 years.

You will connect discovery science within RDM with related activity across the Medical Sciences Division and the wider University, including the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre:
Oxford and other translational programmes. You will build strategic partnerships with clinical, academic and industry collaborators, contribute to major funding initiatives, and play a significant role in recruiting, training and mentoring the next generation of researchers.

You are an internationally outstanding scientist or clinician scientist with a higher postgraduate degree (PhD or equivalent) and an exceptional record of research achievement in developmental and stem cell biology and a compelling vision for its application to human disease. You will bring the scientific ambition, collaborative approach and leadership skills to advance the field, strengthen Oxford's research community and translate fundamental discoveries towards improvements in human health.

The post may be held by either a clinical or non-clinical academic. If appointed on a clinical basis, you will be expected to hold an honorary consultant contract with the relevant NHS Trust, subject to the usual approvals, registration and job-planning requirements.
