We are looking for a web developer to cover a period of maternity leave on a fixed‑term basis. You will keep (Word Press) running, accurate and on‑brand, and you will play a central part in a live project: transitioning our in‑house concept site into the production website. The concept site is hand‑built in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, so you will be comfortable both in Word Press and in front‑end code, turning a finished design concept into a live, performant site.
You will sit in Digital Media and work with teams across the business.
- Maintain and update in Word Press, keeping it accurate, on‑brand and fully functional.
- Help build out and transition the in‑house concept site into the production website, working in hand‑coded HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no CSS framework, using Python build tooling and a Git‑based deployment workflow.
- Pick up and deliver in‑flight web work and team requests so projects continue without interruption.
- Build pages and web elements that follow the brand book and templates.
- Test across devices and browsers, troubleshoot and fix issues, and keep performance and load times strong.
- Apply SEO best practice and keep content correct and consistent.
- Hand work back cleanly at the end of the cover period.
- Proven web development experience, with a portfolio.
- Solid HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and hands‑on Word Press experience (PHP‑based themes, page builders, plugins). Comfortable working in Git.
- Comfort taking a built design and realising it as a live, responsive, performant site.
- An eye for visual detail and the discipline to keep work consistent and on‑brand.
- Self‑motivated and organised, able to step into an existing setup quickly and manage multiple deadlines.
- Desirable: graphic design skills for web elements and visual assets, SEO knowledge, web analytics, UX/UI sensibility, familiarity with static‑site build tooling, and awareness of web accessibility (WCAG).
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys owning and continuously improving web platforms. Alongside managing and enhancing our existing websites, you’ll play an important role during a period of brand transformation, helping bring our refreshed identity to life online while ensuring our digital presence remains reliable, effective and user‑focused.
