Casual Van Driver

£14.06 per hour | Casual hours | Monday–Saturday | Emmaus Oxford, 242 Barns Road, Cowley

Looking for a driving job where no two days are the same – and where the work you do genuinely makes a difference? As a Casual Van Driver at Emmaus Oxford, you’ll be much more than the person behind the wheel. You’ll be part of a friendly team collecting donated furniture, delivering purchases to customers and helping keep our social enterprise moving.

Every collection and delivery from our second‑hand store in Cowley, Oxford. helps us generate income to support the Emmaus community and the people at its heart.

You’ll work alongside Emmaus Companions and volunteers, helping to organise collections and deliveries and making sure everyone has a positive experience. You’ll supervise and support your team, share your knowledge and help people develop practical skills and confidence. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with others, leads by example and understands that patience, encouragement and mutual respect can make a real difference.

This is a practical, active role. Alongside driving a 3.5‑tonne Luton‑style van, you’ll help load and unload furniture, carry goods in and out of buildings, complete house and business clearances and transport items to recycling centres and tips. You’ll also take responsibility for vehicle checks, cleanliness, security and equipment, while ensuring that all driving, lifting and loading activities are carried out safely and responsibly.

You’ll need a valid driving licence, at least two years’ driving experience including authorisation to drive 3.5‑tonne vans, and you must be over 21 for insurance purposes. Just as importantly, you’ll need good communication and organisational skills, the ability to stay calm under pressure and the confidence to coordinate and delegate to others. Experience in delivery driving and customer service is essential, while experience of training people, fleet maintenance, rota planning, recycling, second‑hand retail or working with vulnerable people would be a bonus.

At Emmaus, the work we do is built around people, community and the belief that everyone has potential. As a Van Driver, you’ll see the impact of your work every day — from meeting customers and collecting generous donations to supporting Companions as they learn new skills and take on new challenges. You’ll help turn donated goods into valuable income while being part of a team that works with compassion, respect, integrity and solidarity
