Responsible for promoting an inclusive culture of student success while providing inspiration, role modeling, vision, direction, community, and academic support needed to assist students in achieving personal and professional goals. Coordinates activities and programs of the Inclusive Student Services Center. Significant responsibilities (approximate time allocation):
- Lead Work and Supervision – 40%:
Supports/ facilitates a sense of community among students identifying as Asian American & Pacific Islanders, Native American, LGBTQ+, AB 540, DACA, undocumented or other populations. Coordinates ISS operations, facilitates leadership development, and assessment for students. Serves as a member of the Cultural Centers team and supports implementation of major programs led by coordination teams of the Black Cultural Center and the Latin
X Cultural Center, ensuring desired student learning outcomes. Produces and submits semesterly and yearly program reviews. Develops & maintains position descriptions and hires, trains, and mentors student employees. Meets regularly with students and student groups/organizations to provide mentorship and academic support services for sensitive and complex issues. Serves as resource for recommended courses of action and proposed solutions for students with underrepresented status, providing counseling and referrals as needed.
Provides day‑to‑day oversight of ISS Center student staff. - Program Development, Oversight, and Assessment – 30%:
Oversees ISS Center operations, programming and student staff. Facilitates leadership development opportunities and cross‑cultural learning and engagement across campus. Collaborates with cultural center team members to develop co‑curricular programs supporting student success, well‑being, and professional growth. Oversees program assessment and evaluation, informs continuous quality improvement, and develops campus‑wide programs raising awareness and providing education on social justice, institutional racism, power, privilege, oppression, and cultural/ethnic identity.
Facilitates responsive activities and events for campus needs, especially for students from diverse backgrounds. Participates in local, regional, and national organizations to support student success and remains current on educational trends and best practices. - Campus Resources and Outreach Support – 25%:
Leads efforts to promote collaboration between the ISS Center and other student services units, facilitates collaboration with academic departments, and develops student‑faculty engagement opportunities. Serves as a resource for issues connected to cultural center work and represents the ISS Center on relevant university committees. - Budget Oversight and Associated Students Interface – 5%:
Assists in tracking and oversight of ISS Center budgets and finances. Interfaces closely with Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) and other budgetary leads, maintaining working relationships with Relevant Student‑Governed ASI programs. - Additional duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Minority Studies, Social Work, Outreach, Education, or related field required. Preference for undergraduate upper‑division or graduate coursework;
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: At least three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. Experience supporting the success and engagement of Asian American & Pacific Islanders, Native American, LGBTQ+, AB 540, DACA, or undocumented students preferred. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
Other Skills & Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by historically underrepresented/first‑generation students; ability to foster inclusive campus climate.
