Position: Recreation Aide I/II - Extra Help

The City of Oxnard's Cultural and Community Services Department is seeking Recreation Aides to join our team!

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide I/II provides on-site and tour supervision and/or instruction for programs and special events, and support for a variety of programs and activities in the areas of sports, cultural arts, interpretive and adaptive services, and other related parks, recreation, culture, arts, and community programs and services.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Recreation Aide I is the entry level classification that allows the incumbent to develop journey level knowledge and abilities. Initially under closer supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties related to recreational and human services programs and activities and may reasonably expect to have the position allocated to the II level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency which meets the qualifications for the higher level class.

The Recreation Aide II is the journey level classification in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and normally filled by advancement from Recreation Aide I, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience in recreation programs or activities. This class is distinguished from the Recreation Leader III in that the latter performs duties requiring a broader and more detailed understanding of recreation and human services program operations, and has the responsibility for supervision and training of assigned personnel.

Supervision

Received / Exercised

General supervision is provided by a Recreation Leader III or higher level recreation program personnel. A Recreation Aide II may provide functional and technical supervision to subordinate recreation leaders or volunteers.
