As a GP Receptionist, you will be the welcoming face and voice of our practice, providing a professional and compassionate first point of contact for patients. You will manage appointments, handle enquiries, support clinicians, and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. This is a varied and fast-paced role that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a caring, patient-focused approach.

Main duties of the job Key Responsibilities include:
  • Greet patients and visitors in a polite and professional manner
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately
  • Book, amend, and cancel appointments using the practice’s clinical system
  • Handle patient queries sensitively and confidentially
  • Assist patients with registration forms and general paperwork
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Scan and file medical documents
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post
  • Liaise with clinicians, nurses, and other staff as required
Operational Support
  • Ensure reception area is tidy and welcoming
  • Manage waiting room
  • Follow practice procedures for confidentiality and data protection
  • Support other administrative staff during busy periods
Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment
  • Good IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, clinical systems)
  • Professional and empathetic manner
Desirable
  • Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience using clinical systems (e.g., EMIS)
