Position: Camp Manager (Fixed Term Summer Contract)

This role ensures that the academic and co-curricular programmes in the camp meet Alpadia’s high standards, welfare arrangements are in place for our students, and staff are led by example.

Responsibilities
  • Staff Management:
    Manage all staff effectively and respectfully, support personal development, lead daily meetings, assist with training and induction, and support the regional manager with performance management and disciplinary actions.
  • Student Management:
    Safeguard and promote wellbeing, act as Designated Safeguarding Staff, manage students respectfully according to Alpadia policies, and take overall responsibility for student behaviour and discipline in camp.
  • Language Programme:
    Assist the Academic Manager to line-manage teachers and senior staff to ensure high-quality Standard, Intensive and Individual Courses.
  • Activities Programme:
    Assist the Activity Manager to line-manage activity leaders to deliver a well-prepared and enjoyable multi-activity, premium, evening and excursion programme for all students.
  • Welfare and Health & Safety:
    Ensure safeguarding and health and safety policies are understood and followed; line-manage staff to provide high-quality welfare; respond to emergencies affecting students, staff or Alpadia’s reputation.
  • Communication:
    Communicate effectively with host schools, external partners, parents/agents, and line managers to keep key stakeholders informed.
  • Administration:
    Manage weekend check-in/out, class lists, registers and pocket money; oversee camp telephone, email inbox and record keeping, ensuring smooth camp operations.
  • Relationships:
    Manage working relationships professionally, support the camp management team, and nurture a positive camp environment.
  • Financial Control:
    Handle financial procedures sensitively and professionally, manage bank cards and cash, and control expenditures to protect Alpadia.
  • Transfers:
    Take responsibility for inbound/outbound student airport transfers; coordinate with the transfer manager and provide information to students and parents as needed.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven experience in managing or coordinating summer camps, youth programmes, or similar environments.
  • Experience leading teams and supervising staff in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Demonstrated safeguarding and welfare experience for children and young people.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage budgets, logistics, and administrative processes efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Competence in conflict resolution and decision-making under pressure.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in education, recreation, management or related field.
  • Responsible, approachable and resilient under pressure; positive and motivating attitude towards staff and campers.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations or schedules.
  • Commitment to a safe, inclusive and enjoyable camp environment.
