Position: Teacher (Substitute)

Job Overview

Positions are located within the Americas Mid Atlantic and Southeast Districts. These positions are not covered by a bargaining unit. All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located, defined as the geographic area surrounding the work site where people live and can reasonably travel back and forth daily (5 CFR 575.203). Open from 12/01/2025 to 03/31/2026.

Pay: $24.57 per hour (AD 00).

Duties
  • Maintains discipline for the classroom
  • Communicates lesson plans to students
  • Maintains accurate records for the classroom
  • Supervises students in the school environment
  • Interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, and parents
Conditions of Employment
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

Qualifications

This announcement will be used to fill Substitute positions in one of two different series. Candidates from both series will be referred for consideration and selection. To qualify, you must meet one of the education requirements described below.

Teacher (Substitute), AD-1710-00: You must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. A copy of your transcript must be submitted for consideration. Education

Foreign degrees and coursework from non‑accredited institutions must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Evaluation can be done through a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or via a regionally accredited institution’s graduate division. Graduates of non‑accredited institutions may validate their undergraduate work by admission to graduate school and completion of a minimum of 5 semester hours of credit at a regionally accredited graduate college.

  • Multiple vacancies will be filled from the applicant pool that applies to this announcement.
  • Selectees will be appointed on a temporary basis for the length of the school year.
  • Substitute teachers are needed only when a teacher is absent; no guarantee of regular work hours.

  • This position is covered by the Dual Compensation Act which prohibits receiving pay from more than one position for more than 40 hours in a calendar week.
