Summary
Sales Store Checkers operate a cash register scanning system to checkout items and receive payment for purchases made in a commissary store. The role is similar to a cashier or clerk at a grocery or retail store.

- Operate an electronic checkout system, make change, and verify the change fund and amount of currency received during an assigned shift.
- Manage change machines and ensure proper amounts of cash and coins are available.
- Assist customers by answering questions concerning prices, identification, and location of items.
- Count cash and negotiable instruments to prepare an accountability report.
- Assist customers in self-checkout registers and correct processing of purchases.
- Change register tape and clear routine equipment and scanning jams on registers.
- Be a U.S. citizen or national; proof of citizenship required.
- Meet minimum age requirement. Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
- Successful verification of identity and employment eligibility through E-Verify.
- Favorable suitability or fitness through background investigation.
- Obtain and maintain clearance eligibility.

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 2091 and additional requirements.
Experience: Six (6) months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work.
Education: One (1) full year of education above high school.
Combination: Calculate: (months of experience ÷
6) + (semester hours ÷ 30); 100% qualifies.
Physical requirements:
- Stand for prolonged periods.
- Lift up to 25 lbs independently; occasionally over 25 lbs with assistance.
Certifications may be required for background clearance and suitability.
