Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client requires a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their team supporting mining operations in the Paarl region. This position is critical for assessing ground conditions, ensuring the stability of mine excavations, and managing geotechnical risks associated with mining activities. You will conduct site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics data, and provide recommendations for safe and effective mine design and construction.

The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of geotechnical principles as applied to mining and construction, ensuring project safety and integrity.

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock mass characterization.
• Analyze geotechnical data using appropriate software and provide engineering recommendations.
• Design and monitor slopes, tunnels, foundations, and other structures related to mining operations.
• Assess and manage geotechnical risks, developing mitigation strategies as needed.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and design drawings.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and construction teams to ensure safe and stable excavations.

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with specific experience in the mining sector.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, Geo Studio).
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing interpretation.
