Our client is seeking a qualified Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their operational team near Paarl . This role is critical for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment within the underground mining operations by designing, implementing, and managing effective ventilation systems. You will be responsible for airflow modeling, dust and gas control, and maintaining optimal environmental conditions for personnel and equipment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mine ventilation principles and a proven ability to apply these in a practical mining setting, contributing to operational safety and efficiency in the challenging underground conditions typical of the region. This is a key role within the mine's safety and operations framework.
- Design and optimize underground mine ventilation systems to ensure adequate airflow and air quality.
- Conduct airflow modeling and simulations using specialized software.
- Monitor and assess environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, dust, and gas levels.
- Develop and implement strategies for dust and fume control and suppression.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to mine ventilation.
- Manage ventilation equipment, including fans, ducting, and air monitors.
- A degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in ventilation.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering , preferably in underground mining.
- Proficiency in mine ventilation software (e.g., Ventsim, Ventlog).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and air quality management.
- Knowledge of relevant South African mining health and safety legislation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
