About the Role
Our client is seeking an expert Horticultural Scientist with a specialization in Viticulture to join their renowned research institute in Paarl . This position is crucial for advancing the science and practice of grapevine cultivation, focusing on improving grape quality, yield, and disease resistance. You will conduct cutting-edge research, advise wine producers, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the region's wine industry.
The role requires a deep understanding of grapevine physiology, soil science, climate interactions, and innovative vineyard management techniques.
- Conduct research on grapevine physiology, genetics, and optimal growing conditions to enhance grape quality and yield.
- Develop and implement advanced vineyard management strategies, including canopy management, irrigation, and nutrition programs.
- Investigate and manage grapevine diseases, pests, and physiological disorders using integrated approaches.
- Analyze vineyard data and environmental factors to provide precise recommendations to wine producers in Paarl.
- Collaborate with winemakers and viticulturalists to ensure the highest quality grape production for wine and table grape markets.
- Stay updated on the latest research and technological advancements in viticulture and oenology.
- MSc or Ph.D. in Horticulture, Viticulture, Plant Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of research experience in viticulture or closely related field.
- In-depth knowledge of grapevine physiology, soil science, and vineyard management practices.
- Experience with vineyard data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information effectively to stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the wine industry and challenges specific to the region is a significant advantage.
