Research Associate - Organic Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Research Associate to join their organic synthesis laboratory in Paarl . This role is essential for supporting the development of novel chemical entities through meticulous laboratory work and synthetic expertise. You will contribute to critical research projects by synthesizing target molecules, optimizing reaction conditions, and characterizing newly synthesized compounds, playing a vital role in our client's innovation pipeline within the dynamic chemical research landscape.

• Perform multi-step organic synthesis of target molecules according to established protocols and project goals.
• Optimize reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and efficiency of synthetic routes.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using various analytical techniques including NMR, MS, HPLC, and IR.
• Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks, documenting all experimental procedures and results.
• Assist in the preparation of research reports and presentations.
• Manage laboratory inventory and ensure safe handling and disposal of chemicals.

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience in synthetic organic chemistry laboratories.
• Proficiency in common organic synthesis techniques and purification methods.
• Experience with standard analytical instrumentation (NMR, MS, HPLC).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team.
